Operating Support
Unrestricted funds to support an organization’s mission. Operating support is generally thought of in terms of day to day ongoing expenses, such as salaries, utilities, office supplies, etc.. It includes capital asset stewardship (although not capital improvements)
A subtype of operating support is seed money that is used to start a new organization.
Program
Restricted funds to support specific new or ongoing programs or projects. Such grants may include funds for administrative overhead
Capacity Building (Technical Assistance)
Restricted funds for specific, time-limited projects to improve the operations of the organization. Such projects would include technology purchases and upgrades (under $5,000), board and staff training, strategic planning, consultants etc.
Capital
Restricted funds that increase the assets of an organization, including endowments, the purchase or construction of a new facility, renovation or addition to an existing facility, or purchase equipment with an expected useful life of three or more years (or over $5,000).
